Hand-Split Shake Siding Perfect for Home Addition
Kevin Travis needed more living space in his historic (circa 1852) home. His solution: adding on a new family/sun room. To match the Italianate style of his home exterior, he selected Hand-Split Shake Siding from DaVinci Roofscapes.
“I’ve found that traditional siding is thin and flimsy,” says Travis, who lives in Warsaw, Illinois. “Oftentimes the color of the siding fades due to constant weather conditions. I wanted something better for our home, and I found it through DaVinci.
“This was also the perfect product selection for our home. Historically Shaker and Italianate styles of homes have been blended to accommodate new additions and outbuildings. So, in keeping with that tradition, we selected the Hand-Split Shake Siding from DaVinci.”
Selecting Sage Green
With color through and through, DaVinci Hand-Split Shake Siding comes in eight different colors. Travis selected the Sage Green synthetic siding to complement his existing home exterior color.
Just like DaVinci’s roofing products, the siding shakes resist impact, fire, mold, algae, insects, salt air and high winds. And, while they look as attractive as real cedar, they won’t curl, cup or split like real cedar.
Made of virgin resins, UV and thermal stabilizers, and a highly-specialized fire retardant, the siding is resistant to expansion and contraction that can happen with fluctuating weather conditions and temperatures.
Each tile in the siding line is 18-inches tall with a 5/8-inch thickness and comes in eight- or 10-inch widths. The 10-inch wide pieces have a simulated keyway to give the appearance of four- and six-inch width shakes placed together to provide a multi-width appearance.
