Terry Haseman’s lakefront home was originally built in 1904 as a yacht club. Then it was transitioned into a hotel. Now it’s a private residence that’s for sale for 1.5 million dollars. What roof did Haseman have added to the expansive house to add curb appeal before he put it on the market? A DaVinci Slate composite roof in an attractive European blend of four colors.

“We had asphalt shingles on this home previously,” says Haseman, owner of the home in Lake Villa, Ill. “They were completely destroyed by a hail storm right as we were thinking about putting the house up for sale. The roof plays such a vital role in the aesthetics of this home that we decided to upgrade to a composite slate roof.”

Roof Selection Helps Curb Appeal

The stately home that sits on Fox Lake features a stunning exterior.  For instance, there’s an extensive wrap-around porch with stone walkways leading to the dock. From all angles, the home is a true winner.

“We knew that selecting the right roof was an important decision for this house,” says Haseman. “We looked at different manufacturers and ultimately decided on DaVinci.

“After seeing samples of the roofing material we were sold on the quality of the DaVinci composite slate product. We know that the warranty of the product is a good selling point. Plus, we can confidently tell potential buyers that the roof is now impact-resistant. This way they’ll never have to worry about hail damage like we did.”

Tackling the Roof Installation

The re-roofing project was massive. Therefore, Haseman brought in the team from Elite Home Restoration. The roofing company installs DaVinci roofs throughout the Chicagoland area.

“The previous asphalt shingle roof on this house really sustained damage in a May 2018 hail storm,” says Samantha Stron with Elite Home Restoration. “They were looking to add value and design to their home — and selected DaVinci Slate to make that happen.”

The team at Elite replaced the main roof with the composite slate product. The color blend features three shades of gray and a dark purple. Then they added snow guards to protect the walkways. Copper valleys were installed for accent. To finish the job workers refreshed and repainted the dormers on the upper portion of the home.

“We’re very pleased with the work done by Elite and with our selection of the DaVinci roofing tiles,” says Haseman. “The house has always been striking. Now, with the new roof overhead, it’s a stunning beauty. Both inside and out, this is an extremely special home.”
