DaVinci Composite Slate Chosen for “The Chosen”
A worldwide phenomenon, The Chosen is the first-ever multi-season TV show about the life of Jesus. The show is translated into 50 languages. The Chosen is seen by more than 100 million people. Recently, the groundbreaking historical drama filmed Season 3 on a specially created set in Midlothian, Texas.
Built to mimic Capernaum in Israel, the massive set includes a variety of realistic-looking buildings constructed to the time of Jesus. Joe Hall Roofing & Contracting was called on to add the roofing to multiple structures. They used three different products to achieve the aged appearance. One was a Sonora-colored synthetic slate roof from DaVinci Roofscapes.
“We recommended DaVinci for the synagogue building,” says Josh Soroka, business development manager with Joe Hall Roofing & Contracting out of Arlington, Texas. “The product gave the show the aesthetic look they desired. Plus, the warranty that it will be functional for years to come.
“Long after The Chosen is finished using this set it will be turned into a Sunday school camp. So it was important to the production team to have a realistic and dependable roofing product. That led us to propose DaVinci.”
From Blueprints to Completion
The experience of being involved in the set creation for The Chosen was both demanding and rewarding for the Joe Hall Roofing & Contracting team.
“Building construction was fast paced on the set,” says Soroka. “We worked quickly to keep up with the overall pace. For the DaVinci project, we put 15 workers on the roof installation. We needed to get the job done in just one day. The roof has copper components that make it truly a landmark on the show set.”
After Season 3 of The Chosen premiered in late 2022, Joe Hall Roofing & Contracting created their own video, which is featured below.
