Synthetic Shake Roofing Transforms The Meadows

The Meadows new composite roof has the authentic appearance of wood shake, which complements the warm, inviting feeling inside.
Night and day. That’s the dramatic difference the new DaVinci Multi-Width Shake roof makes on The Meadows assisted living facility in Burlington, Kansas.

Whereas the 24 resident apartments used to have bright metal green panels overhead, they now have a Tahoe blend of soothing woodgrains. The difference is, quite simply, night and day.

“The new composite shake roof looks less ‘institutional’ and much more homelike,” according to Stacy Augustyn, MSN-NA RN, COO of Coffey Health System, which operates The Meadows. “The residents are pleased with the results. The outside of the facility now matches the warm, inviting feeling you get inside the building.”

The Meadows new roof has the authentic appearance of wood shake and will protect the facility regardless of what storms Mother Nature has in store.

DaVinci Offers Authentic Appearance of Wood Shake

Plans for the new roof began after hail severely damaged the 20-year-old aluminum shingle roof overhead. Many issues resulted, including multiple leaks. The storm damage warranted a full roof replacement. At that point Augustyn met with representatives from Eaton Roofing & Exteriors.

“Durability and style were equally important for this replacement project,” says Adam Gerstner, project manager with Eaton Roofing & Exteriors. “Kansas weather brings a variety of harsh weather conditions.

“We recommended DaVinci Roofscapes composite shake roofing. This dependable manmade roofing material can withstand whatever Mother Nature throws its way for decades to come. Plus it has a truly authentic appearance of wood shake. In our experience, there’s nothing on the market that can compete with DaVinci.”

Augustyn and her team indeed appreciated the natural look of the DaVinci Multi-Width Shake for The Meadows. And, the Class 4 Impact Rated durability of the product provided immediate peace of mind.

The experience Eaton Roofing brought to the project also made a significant impression. The DaVinci Masterpiece Contractor installs 20-30 DaVinci projects a year. They’ve done this since 2002, and in 2020 Eaton Roofing & Exteriors surpassed installation of 1,000,000 square feet of DaVinci composite roofing.

The Meadows worked with color expert Kate Smith to ensure the new roof had the authentic appearance of wood shake and also complemented the buildings.

Color Selection Support

With confidence in both the roofing product and roofer, Augustyn next turned her attention to color selection. Eaton Roofing & Exteriors was able to assist with this aspect, too. They offered the professional color support of DaVinci’s color consultant, Kate Smith.

“In looking at The Meadows project, the primary thing to consider is the tone of the exterior elements,” says Smith, chief color consultant at Sensational Color. “The brick on the building is a traditional warm red without noticeable variations. The blocks around the buildings’ base appear to have warm gray tones. Roofing that is slightly muted will harmonize with these materials. It will also complement the style of the building by using color to connect the roof to the base of the building visually.”

Smith offered several color selection options for The Meadows. For a traditional look she suggested Mountain, Tahoe or Mossy Cedar colors. Augustyn ultimately selected Tahoe for a warm, rich cedar color that harmonizes with the bricks.

“Having someone provide expert insight into the color selections was invaluable,” says Augustyn. “Knowing our selection had been vetted by a color professional who does this every day removed the stress of potentially making a wrong selection.”

Roofer Earns A+ Rating

Moving ahead with installation, the Eaton Roofing & Exteriors team was able to remove the horrible old green metal panels and start installing the composite tiles with the authentic appearance of wood shake.

“Eaton Roofing & Exteriors was wonderful to work with from start to finish,” says Augustyn. “They had a plan from day one to ensure all staff and residents were safe. This included keeping noise and disruptions for our residents to a minimum.

“They were professional, quick to respond, and assisted us in every way possible. The DaVinci products they installed created exactly the curb appeal we need at The Meadows.

“Beyond that, we appreciate that they maintained frequent communication with us during the project. Plus they kept us apprised on budget and costs. Even when small delays occurred unexpectedly, the Eaton Roofing & Exteriors crew did everything possible to get the job back on track.

“Overall, they were organized, efficient, and some of the kindest people to work with. I’d recommend Eaton Roofing & Exteriors to other healthcare organizations and businesses … plus I’d use them on my own home!”
