Composite Slate Tops Castle
For Jim and Karen Pinkerman, their home really is their castle. Or their castle is their home. Either way, when their failing cedar shake roof was further damaged by hail, it was time to protect their kingdom with a new roof.
The beautiful Country French style home, complete with turret, cried out for an impressive roof. And the homeowners found one from Greater Midwest Exteriors, a DaVinci Masterpiece Contractor.
“We shared different material options with Jim and Karen and they fell in love with DaVinci Multi-Width Slate,” says Clint Tuthill, sales executive with Greater Midwest Exteriors in Shorewood, Illinois. “It was a combination of aesthetics plus the aspect of zero maintenance that enthralled them. In addition, they loved the staggered look we could achieve with the multi-width slate.”
Ornamental Composite Slate Roof Features
After 45 years of living in their castle, the homeowners are still in love with their home.
“The dormer windows, the pitch of the roof and the turret are my favorite exterior elements,” says Karen Pinkerman. “We know this can be a tricky roof for an installation. We’re very impressed with the work of Greater Midwest Exteriors and would highly recommend their services to others.
“Giving this roof a new, longer life is exciting. We picked the Castle Gray color to coordinate with the trim colors on the house. And the copper work that the installation team did is just incredible!”
Copper Creation
The beautiful standing seam copper ornamental roof over the billiard room is a hybrid of a gambrel and a mansard roof. Other copper roofing and accents are just as incredible on the home.
“The coppersmith is incredibly skilled,” says Tuthill. “And, like any project, we roll up our sleeves and do whatever it takes to complete it. We use the highest quality materials. Our craftsmen put their hearts into what they do. I ask them to think of it as their own homes and put that level of care into the project. The results speak for themself.”
12-Day Transformation
For Tuthill, who has been involved in more than 350 DaVinci installations, the Pinkerman project had special appeal.
“The eyebrow windows, the turret, all the special features were just great,” says Tuthill. “This was a challenging but fun project. It went deep into the well regarding skills, patience and dedication of our team. We were able to focus and bring all our resources together to complete this project expertly in just 12 days.”
As for the Pinkermans, they’re happily ensconced in their castle with its ornamental composite slate roof.
“Our old cedar roof was a worry during storms and for all the maintenance it required,” says Pinkerman. “We have peace of mind realizing our new DaVinci roof is nearly maintenance free.
“Whether we’re at home or traveling, we feel comfortable knowing the composite slate roof is protecting our home from the elements.”
