Royal Elk Villas Get New DaVinci Slate Roofs

Thanks to an expert roofing recommendation these townhomes were re-roofed with DaVinci composite slate.
Nestled inside Beaver Creek Village in Avon, Colorado you’ll find the Royal Elk Villas. Ideally located for year-round vacation fun, these 15 luxury townhomes now have new DaVinci Single-Width Slate roofing overhead.

Of course the big appeal of Beaver Creek is the snow. Lots of snow. About 20 feet each year, making for ideal ski conditions. Unfortunately it’s this continuous snowfall that beat up the roofs of the townhomes. The sun’s rays also caused the old roofs to fade.

To find a solution to the problem, the homeowners association, seeking an expert roofing recommendation, brought in Ascent Building Consulting out of Castle Rock, Colorado.

“This was a fairly easy product recommendation,” says Steve R. Bunn, RRC, RRO, president of Ascent Building Consulting, Inc. “I’ve selected and specified DaVinci Roofscapes synthetic shake and slate products on multiple projects for a number of years. That’s mostly due to the continued success with the products. My first successful project was with Elk Track town homes about 15 years ago in Beaver Creek.

“Specific to Royal Elk, I selected DaVinci synthetic slate. The product has a good resistance to freeze-thaw cycling. In addition, it has the ability to achieve a Class-A fire rating, which is important. And, naturally, it has a proven long-term established performance record.”

The HOA for these townhomes sought an expert roofing recommendation, which led them to DaVinci composite slate. Expert Roofing Recommendation

Bunn knows what he’s talking about. If you’re not familiar with those initials after his name, RRC stands for Registered Roof Consultant. It’s a designation assigned by the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IBEC). A person achieves RRC after meeting a high level of roofing work and education requirements.

Those other initials — RRO — stand for Registered Roof Observer. These  people are roofing quality insurance observers. They monitor the construction process to assure that roofing projects stay in compliance with construction drawings, best practices, specifications and warranted installation procedures. These individuals are also certified by IBEC.

So, when Steve Bunn makes a statement about long-term success with DaVinci products, it’s worth listening.

Sparkling Success

Back to the town houses. After Bunn made his expert roofing recommendations to the Royal Elk homeowners association, they were accepted. Following approval by the Beaver Creek Design Review Administration, the heavy work got started.

J&K Roofing was selected to remove the old roofs and install the new roofing systems. During the process they saved portions of the snow retention system for re-installation.

“The DaVinci product went up smoothly,” says Karla Ferguson, vice president with J&K Roofing out of Golden, Colorado. “It’s a good product to work with and we’ve had strong success with DaVinci in the past. Especially because it’s Class A fire rated, it’s a smart investment in our geographic location.

“When looking up at the Royal Elks roofs you’ll see the copper accents are amazing. The K-style gutters, counter flashing, valley flashing, chimney crickets and other elements are all copper. They really sparkle.”

In addition, Ascent Building Consulting also specified Rocky Mountain Snow Guards copper products for the snow retention system. More than 4,500 RG 16 snow guards are installed in soldier row formations across the Brownstone blend of synthetic slate roofing.

“The high volume of annual snowfall mandates a really strong snow retention system for this project,” says Ferguson, a DaVinci Masterpiece Contractor. “Rocky Mountain Snow Guards provided us with the layout plan for the snow guards. Together with the high quality of the DaVinci products, we know this roofing system will reliably serve the Royal Elk Villas community for decades.”
