Benefits of Finding the Right Roofer

Finding the right roofer lead this homeowner to a synthetic slate roof from DaVinci, which will protect the home for decades to come.

Frank Davis hit the jackpot when he hired Knox Roofing to reroof his 27-year-old Georgian-style home. Along with finding the right roofer who helped him find the synthetic slate roof of his dreams, the Dallas, Texas, roofer also recommended getting the homeowner’s insurance company to pay for the new roof!

It all started in 1996 when the Davis family had their custom home built. They had it designed partly after a DuPont style home in Delaware. They considered adding a real slate roof, but it was too heavy for the structure, and out of their price range. They settled for composition shingles instead.

Fast forward to 2023. Severe weather took its toll on the roof over the years. The shingles started to leak. Plus, a flat metal standing seam portion of the roof leaked during heavy rains. Davis started looking for a roofer.

Cost-Saving Ideas

“After talking with Dakota Carson with Knox Roofing I was impressed with his attitude and approach to our situation,” says Davis. “Once he looks at our roof, he suggests we see if our insurance would cover roof damage. The adjuster concluded that we had enough hail damage to warrant the entire roof would need replacing. That’s just the first way Dakota helped us.”

While the insurance paperwork was being processed, Carson discussed replacement roofing with Davis. The homeowners thought they’d simply replace their composition shingles. However, after hearing about their original desire for slate, Carson introduced them to synthetic slate from DaVinci Roofscapes.

“Dakota did more than just tell us about the product,” says Davis. “He gave us addresses of homes he reroofed with DaVinci so we could go see them. We were impressed. Next he arranged to get samples sent to our house so we could look carefully at the product during different times of day and under various light conditions.

“We reviewed the DaVinci brochure carefully. However, nothing beats seeing the product in person. Together we decided that the DaVinci Single-Width Slate in the Evergreen color best replicates the roof on the house we were looking to match. This attention to turning our dreams into reality was very impressive.”

DaVinci synthetic slate tiles are made of pure virgin resins, UV and thermal stabilizers, along with a highly specialized fire retardant. Each tile is Class A fire and Class 4 impact rated. The state-of-the-art tiles resist fading, rotting, cracking and insects. Backed by a Lifetime Limited Material Warranty, the 12-inch wide slate tiles are ½-inch thick. The company’s Color Visualizer is available online for easy assistance with color selection.

Exceeding Expectations

After finding the right roofer who helped them decide on a roofing product, the Davis family continued to be impressed by Knox Roofing team. A relatively flat area of standing seam metal proved a headache for the homeowners for more than two decades. Carson explained that the way the roof was originally crimped wasn’t appropriate for such a gentle slope. So he replaced it with a similar standing seam metal roof with the appropriate crimps. He also added underlying layers of material to prevent leaks in the future.

Then they proceeded to install the DaVinci slate on the steep pitches of the roof. They fabricated custom flashings to tie in areas where needed with the flat sections.

“Knox Roofing exceeded my expectations in their work,” says Davis. “They were on time, very careful and finished on schedule, and of course, on budget. They protected the house and bushes from falling debris. I gained so much more than I expected from them, so naturally I heartily recommend them to others.

“The new synthetic slate roof looks very good. I’m glad we chose to go with the DaVinci product. I suspect that the look and longevity will add considerably to our home’s value.”
